THE VEIL PROPOESED ART LOCATION:
Bungadewa Tamansari Gallery, Petaling Jaya.
A taman sari to showcase artistry, located in the middle of community neighbourhood, aligned with the artwork of everyday theme.
Designed and part of Bunga Design Atelier, the gallery space host local artistry work since 2020. The beautiful merge of nature and architecture design gives a warm welcoming vibe to the visitor. As the artist I can imagine The Veil artwork to be exhibited in this space blending in with the nature and abundance of natural lighting will enhance the narrative of the artwork.
The Veil: Collecting Fragments of Layers through Her Gaze Series of mask/layers seems to be essential for women today. Layers of clothing, personalities, everyday roles dictated by society are changing depending on certain environment one woman to be in. What makes a woman needs so many layers on herself that only then the society will feel comfortable? The artwork installation is trying to capture one of many intangible elements in women everyday moments. A series of modular structure arranged repeatedly, creating a corridor of hanging fabric. Each of the structure that will be slot into a wall hanging piece, holds a 2metre long fabric, and can be fold through pulling the string attached to the mechanism. The modular design with the hanging fabric symbolize the mechanism that women needs to hold different layers in order for them to go through their normal routine. The structure can transform when being pulled down through the string, folding the modular piece and the fabric, resembling the gesture of unveiling the stories after the layers were folded. This act of movement is supposed to create an interactive experience for the user when they go through the installation. Why is it that these layers are seen as part of her everyday moments? I wonder what happen once we start unveiling these layers, discovering their stories.
