Through our practice, which consists of installation, moving image, printmaking, and painting, we look into the system of power by understanding and challenging the study of the organised knowledge. Our inquiry is to disrupt the Power/Knowledge by including the knowledge of the marginalised community and raise critical reflection on epistemological violence. I employ post qualitative research in my methodology. I recognized that research was not just a means of indexing transcripts but rather a collaboration with my research subjects. This approach prompted me to reimagine data analysis and the construction of subjectivity. It helps to enhance the richness of my research findings and capture subjugated knowledge. I attempted to dissolve the cultural boundaries previously existing in anthropocentrism study. With this mentorship, I hope to further develop my practice and strengthen my ability to challenge dominant narratives and create meaningful connections between the past and the present. I hope to learn from experienced mentors who can guide me in navigating the art world, refining my conceptual approach, and expanding my professional network.
We aim to bring the old alley of Batu Pahat to life through the use of augmented reality (AR) activation. By employing metaphorical zoomorphism, I seek to add depth and vividness to the culture and history of Bandar penggaram at Batu Pahat, enhancing the storytelling experience.
Using AR technology, we will incorporate metaphorical zoomorphism imagery, such as crabs, fishes, chickens, and nagas, in the form of traditional Wayang Kulit (shadow puppetry) onto the walls and surroundings of the old alley. In Tamil, Chinese and Malay culture, zoomorphism can be found in traditional folklore and mythology. Creatures like “harimau” (tiger) and “buaya” (crocodile) are often used as symbols of power, strength, and fearlessness. These creatures symbolize different aspects of the history and cultural heritage of Batu Pahat.
Visitors will have the opportunity to scan the imagery with their mobile devices or AR devices, immersing themselves in an alternate reality realm. This immersive experience will delve deeper into the narratives and stories associated with Batu Pahat, allowing visitors to explore the hidden layers of its history, traditions, and symbolism.
